The glass bangles
Jingling and calling
They look so pretty in red,
Blue and green.
I wish I had
A dozen each
To match every attire
And every ensemble I own.
The pretty glass bangles:
A reason to
Bathe and dress
Promptly on a holiday.
I wait and I wait
Eagerly looking out
For the aunty with
Bangles in a basket.
The aunty shows up,
A hamper on her head
With colourful bangles
Jingling and calling
The glass bangles
I kept clinking
And showcased
To all who would envy.
Those dainty glass bangles
In all the beautiful shades
Make me wish
I was nine again!
Reminded me of the Mysore Exhibition. Where there are stalls of bangles... all surrounded by pretty girls.. the happy sounds of bangles tinkling and of laughter.. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Appu! It brought back memories of jasmine fragrance, the falling dusk... the jingle of bangles and the lilting giggles of girls :)
Thank you Pixie... I kept reminiscing my past.
DeleteBeautiful and nostalgic :) There don't seem to be shops that sell glass bangles anymore. We have to wait for the ulsavam to start if we need to buy glass bangles.
ReplyDeleteThank you...I know even I miss those glass bangles.
DeleteWhenever my wife bought sarees, she will immediately take them to bangle shop to buy matching bangles. Your post brought back those fond memories. Keep those old bangles. S will love to use them soon.

Deletebrims over with nostalgia.. of the times when I loved bangles, wearing more than a dozen at a time on each hand when I started play school, to the time when the teacher made fun of the jiggles on my arm, to when I stopped wearing them, for the craze to restart at Choodi bazar at Charminar years later on a college trip, and off and on phases of wearing bangles.. or not wearing them, but always having a dozen or more ready at hand if in case..
ReplyDelete:) Smiling at the fact that I managed to touch the nostalgic chords...
