Violet

Write Tribe

I am taking part in The Write Tribe Festival of Words 1st - 7th September 2013.

Day 1 - Violet

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In a huge mansion in the countryside, there was a young lady sitting on the ledge of an open window, staring farthest as possible. She was twirling her hair with her fingers and dreaming of the days to come. Her name is Violet named after her mother's favourite colour. The path to the front door was lined with violet flowers and the light breeze filled her senses with fragrance.

Violet has been a good student throughout her school and college days. She is now succeeding in her career and climbing the corporate ladder very quickly. She had a lot of friends who she spent a lot of time with. However, very often she would feel alone and be gazing over the path into nothingness. It was not nothingness for her! It was everything she wanted at these moments of loneliness...it was her earnest prayer for a companion who would love her!

This particular Sunday afternoon, she was oblivious of the world until her mother called, “Violet!” She looked up in a start! Her mother was walking towards her and she quickly cleared the tears that had filled her eyes.

“Violet, which world were you lost in today?” She was known to travel in her mind and fantasize stories. Her mother made her pen those stories and now they had a bookshelf of them!

“Oh Ma…I was here only just thinking of my childhood!”

Her mother smiled at the lie and said, “I don’t believe that! You cleared your tears and missed three phone calls and two doorbells!”

“No seriously mother, I was lost in my memories!”

Violet’s stories, poems and fantasies were missed most by her mother and just wished that she would resume rather than ponder. Her mother had caught her in that state quite a few times over the past few months. But ignoring with a sigh, her mother brushed of the thoughts and said, “Shall we go out shopping today?”

“Sure mother!” eagerly looking for a change from her own devil’s workshop.
